National Space Day Declared: PM Modi Announces Celebration of Chandrayaan-3 on August 23 in India

National Space Day, as announced by PM Modi on Saturday, will commemorate India’s triumph with Chandrayaan-3’s successful lunar landing on August 23. Addressing ISRO scientists in Bengaluru, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attributed the awakening of an entire generation and the indelible impact on young minds to the dedicated ISRO team.

In his address, PM Modi hailed the scientists responsible for India’s triumphant mission to the moon, praising their achievement by stating, ‘You took ‘Make in India’ all the way to the moon.’

PM Modi revealed that the landing spot of the Vikram lander would be named ‘Shivshakti.’

Paying homage to the success of the Chandrayaan-3 lander, PM Modi revealed that the landing spot of the Vikram lander would be named ‘Shivshakti.’ This announcement was made during his speech at the ISRO Telemetry Tracking & Command Network Mission Control Complex in Bengaluru. Additionally, he christened the crash landing site of Chandrayaan-2 as the ‘Tiranga point,’ noting that the mission had left an imprint on the lunar surface in 2019. He also acknowledged the vital contribution of women scientists at ISRO to India’s lunar mission success.

Following his return from a diplomatic tour of Greece and South Africa, PM Modi visited Bengaluru to personally congratulate the ISRO team for Chandrayaan-3’s successful landing on August 23. Upon arriving at the ISRO headquarters, he was warmly received and welcomed. Later, he engaged with the team of scientists who had been pivotal in realizing this mission. While attending the 15th BRICS Summit in South Africa, PM Modi virtually witnessed the historic Vikram lander’s moon landing alongside the ISRO team.

ISRO Chairman S Somanath personally greeted the Prime Minister, and their warm embrace symbolized the joyous culmination of the challenging lunar landing endeavor. A group photograph was taken to mark the occasion. PM Modi also received a comprehensive briefing from S Somanath about ISRO’s 40-day journey to the lunar South Pole.

This momentous occasion showcases India’s prowess in space exploration and underscores the dedication and hard work of its scientific community.
