Meta has rolled out an updated WhatsApp desktop application tailored for Mac users, mirroring most of the recent improvements introduced in the refreshed WhatsApp Windows app, relaunched in August the previous year.
The standout enhancement in the new WhatsApp for Mac app is the expansion of group video calling capabilities. Users can now initiate calls with up to 8 participants, and for audio chats, the capacity has been further extended to accommodate up to 32 participants.
As per WhatsApp’s statement:
“Now you can seamlessly join ongoing group calls, conveniently access your call history, and opt to receive incoming call notifications even when the application is not actively open. The app has undergone a redesign to enhance its familiarity among Mac users, thus ensuring a more productive experience while using WhatsApp on larger screens.”
In its pursuit to align with evolving user behaviors and deliver a more immersive connecting experience, WhatsApp has been progressively enhancing its video offerings. This includes recent additions like screen-sharing for video calls and the incorporation of video messages, complementing its core messaging functionalities.
The revamped Mac app also introduces an improved drag-and-drop file-sharing mechanism, an updated display of chat history, and more. Each of these features is safeguarded with WhatsApp’s standard end-to-end encryption, bolstering data security in an era of growing concerns.
Despite growing inquiries about data privacy, WhatsApp has continued to experience rising usage, with Meta reporting in October of the previous year that North America stands as WhatsApp’s fastest-growing region.
