Rumor Claims iPhone 15 Pro Models to Include 2TB Storage Option

According to the news aggregator account “yeux1122” on the Korean Naver site, a supplier source has confirmed that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max would have double the maximum storage capacity of the iPhone 14 Pro versions.

Furthermore, MacRumors discovered a Weibo account that made a similar claim over the weekend, with the extra detail that the Pro versions will begin with a minimum storage capacity of 256GB, surpassing the current basic capacity of 128GB on the iPhone 14 models.

In a different scenario, Apple would maintain four unique storage tiers: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. These anticipated storage increases could coincide with reports that Apple plans to boost the cost of the iPhone 15 Pro versions this year.

Both renowned Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman and tech expert Jeff Pu have predicted price increases for the upcoming Pro models. Jeff Pu says that the iPhone 15 Pro could start at $1,099, up from the $999 beginning price of the iPhone 14 Pro. If this is correct, the iPhone 15 Pro Max might launch at a starting price of $1,199.

Speculation on 2TB rumor’s validity or pricing strategy emerges; Apple’s 1TB option driven by storage-intensive features like ProRes video.

However, it is still possible that the 2TB rumor is false and that Apple is simply altering device prices to boost revenue in the face of a falling smartphone market. Notably, reports regarding a 2TB option for last year’s iPhone 14 Pro versions did not materialize.

Apple launched a 1TB storage option for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max in 2021, owing to upgraded camera functions such as ProRes video, which takes significantly more storage than ordinary footage.

Capturing ProRes footage in 4K at 30 frames per second, for example, necessitates an iPhone 14 Pro model with at least 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB storage capacity. ProRes video recording is limited to 1080p at 30 frames per second on iPhone 14 Pro models with 128GB storage space. If Apple increases the iPhone 15 Pro’s base capacity to 256GB, all versions will be able to record ProRes in 4K at 30fps.

All questions concerning Apple’s plans for the iPhone 15 Pro will be answered in a little more than a month. According to Gurman, Apple’s annual iPhone event is expected to take place on either Tuesday, September 12, or Wednesday, September 13.
